FAQs About NMN

NMN is one of the most studied and popular substances to slow down aging.

Let’s address some common questions about NOVOS Boost NMN

1. When IS best to take NMN?

You can take NMN twice a day or once a day (preferably in the morning, given it can sometimes give a boost of energy).

2. How much NMN do I take?

Minimum recommended dose is 2 capsules (2×125 mg) per day, 1 to 2 times daily. To achieve an energy boost, take 3-7 capsules together.

3. How much NMN is ideal?

Beneficial effects happen from 250 mg per day. You can take up to 1,000 mg of NMN per day.

4. Is NMN orally bioavailable when taken as a pill? Can I take NMN by mouth?

Yes, recent research shows that NMN is well absorbed when taken orally by the gastrointestinal system.

5. Do I have to take NMN sublingually? (melting it under my tongue?)

No. When you take NMN orally, it will be absorbed. In fact, NMN is absorbed very well when taken by mouth.

Some older reports or websites still claim the best way to take NMN is sublingually (melting it under the tongue), or to even inject it. This has been debunked by recent research, showing that NMN is very well absorbed when taken orally.

Many scientific studies showed beneficial effects on aging when given orally to mice.

Various companies, such as the biotech, Life Biosciences, use NMN in their studies administering it orally.

Professor David Sinclair, arguably one of the world-leading specialists on NMN and aging, takes NMN by mouth every morning

6. How do I store my NMN?

Ideally, you store it in a cool, dry place. You can also store it in the refrigerator.

7. Is NMN better than NR?

It likely is. NMN is one step further in the pathways that converts NAD boosters (like NMN and NR) into NAD. Also, NMN is more stable in the blood.

Scientific research seems to indicate the NMN is better than NR.

For example, NMN seems to have more beneficial effects on various aging symptoms compared to NR.

People also report to feel more beneficial effects using NMN instead of NR.

Nonetheless, NR is currently being heavily promoted, often at the detriment of NMN.

There are many reasons for this. One reason is that the production process of NR is patented, giving a monopoly to specific companies which aggressively market NR. In contrast, NMN is not patented, so this molecule is far less aggressively marketed.

Also, until recently NMN was very difficult and expensive to produce, that is why many companies started selling NR instead of NMN.

We compiled an in-depth comparison between NMN and NR on our blog.

8. Which ingredients does NMN work with synergistically?

NMN works synergistically with pterostilbene, fisetin, alpha-ketoglutarate, glycine, lithium, vitamin C and glucosamine. These are many of the ingredients in our NOVOS Core supplement.

In fact, we specifically developed our Core supplement to have synergistic effects with NMN.

For example, NMN increases the activity of sirtuins, which help to repair our DNA and to maintain our epigenome. Pterostilbene and fisetin can also improve sirtuin activity.

Alpha-ketoglutarate, glycine, lithium and vitamin C all have epigenetic effects, just like NMN, and these molecules together can help to maintain the epigenome.

Glycine, glucosamine and vitamin C also improve mitochondrial functioning, like NMN.

9. Why is NMN so expensive?

NMN is a very difficult molecule to manufacture. Until very recently, it was almost prohibitively expensive to manufacture.

New production processes enabled the price to go down significantly, but NMN is still a very expensive supplement to produce, especially if you want to achieve high-quality, high-purity NMN.

9. Is the NMN in NOVOS Boost soy-free, gluten free, non-GMO and vegan?

Yes.

10. Can I just take NAD+ to increase my NAD+ levels?

No. It sounds like a good idea though, given NMN is converted into NAD+ in our cells, where NAD+ can execute its beneficial effects. However, NAD+ is a large molecule that is broken down in the digestive system and cannot be absorbed by the gut cells.

11. Is NMN a silver bullet to treat aging?

Aging is a very complex process caused by many mechanisms. 12 mechanisms have been described as important hallmarks of aging (R).

NMN acts on some of these mechanisms, like epigenetic dysregulation and DNA damage, and could mitigate the aging process somewhat.

To target the other aging mechanisms, other substances are necessary.

That is why we created NOVOS Core, which contains 12 ingredients that target all the known hallmarks of aging, not just the ones the NMN targets.

Ideally, you combine NOVOS Core (12 longevity ingredients) with NOVOS Boost (NMN).
