8 Reasons Not to DIY the NOVOS Core Ingredient Stack

In this article, we dig further into price, quality, and convenience, and we explain why it doesn’t make sense to try to do-it-yourself NOVOS Core.

Think back to the last time you ordered your favorite dish from a restaurant and all the effort and care that went into preparing that meal. Maybe the dish has a dozen different ingredients, all carefully curated, combined in just the right flavor combination, and expertly crafted by a trained chef, to create a dish worth going out to dinner for. 

Now imagine trying to buy all of those ingredients, measure them precisely, cook everything perfectly, and spend time cleaning up, only to conclude that the dish didn’t taste quite as good as it did in the restaurant. What’s more, you spent more money buying specialty ingredients than you would if you had just gone to the restaurant and ordered the meal.

We can apply this analogy to the concept of trying to buy the 12 ingredients contained in NOVOS Core by going on Amazon and ordering 12 individual bottles of supplements. You might think you can purchase these same 12 supplements on Amazon and get the same longevity benefits. However, like that favorite restaurant dish, it simply doesn’t make sense to buy all of these supplements separately versus buying one 30-day supply of NOVOS Core. In a side-by-side comparison, we looked at how Amazon supplements stack up against our product, and the evidence is overwhelmingly in favor of ditching the DIY approach. Here are eight reasons not to DIY the NOVOS Core ingredient stack — and why it makes more sense to go with an all-in-one solution that’s cost-effective, convenient, and easy to fit into your daily routine.

1. Higher Cost

If you were to buy all of the different ingredients in NOVOS Core separately, the costs would quickly add up. For example, let’s say you buy all of the supplements you need on Amazon in an attempt to DIY your own version of NOVOS Core. The chart below shows that your cash outlay for NOVOS Core is $79, versus over $139 for a DIY Amazon stack. Broken down by daily usage, one daily NOVOS Core drink costs only $2.64 per day for annual subscribers ($79 per month), while an average equivalent Amazon stack would cost you $4.64 per day, or about $139 per month.

2. Difficult to Find Right Ingredient Forms

Many NOVOS ingredients come in specific forms that are rare and difficult to find. 

For example, alpha-ketoglutarate, a substance that has been shown to slow aging in a myriad of ways, is the calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (CaAKG) form in NOVOS. CaAKG is the one used in life extension studies. The calcium addition is important, as it impacts the rate of absorption of the alpha-ketoglutarate and the pH. Most alpha-ketoglutarate supplements available are the plain, cheaper, non-calcium alpha-ketoglutarate form. 

For lithium, we use lithium aspartate instead of lithium orotate. The aspartate form is preferred over the orotate form. 

For glucosamine, it’s important to use the glucosamine sulfate form, not glucosamine HCl or glucosamine KCl (the non-sulfate forms). Many supplements provide these cheaper, non-sulfate forms of glucosamine. We also use vegetarian glucosamine sulfate, which is much rarer to find, given most glucosamine sulfate comes from shellfish. 

For magnesium, we use a dose that is much higher than what’s found in most magnesium supplements (305 mg of magnesium). Also, we use the magnesium malate form, which is better for health and longevity than the commonly used magnesium oxide form found in most supplements. 

For hyaluronic acid, we use hyaluronic acid with not too high nor too low molecular weight. This enables the hyaluronic acid to be more easily broken down in the gut into acetyl-glucosamine, which has shown to extend lifespan. 

We also use specific extracts from Rhodiola rosea (standardized to specific percentages of rosavins and salidrosides) and of ginger (standardized to contain at least 2% gingerols).

To make a long story short, NOVOS’ ingredients are often specific forms of ingredients that most other supplements do not use. 

3. Too Many Pills (19!)

Take another look at the chart above, and you’ll notice that you would need to take a higher dosage of Amazon supplements to match the dosage in NOVOS Core, adding up to 19 pills daily. Do you really want to be taking that many pills, or would you rather just pop open your NOVOS sachet, mix it with water, down it, and be done for the day? Compare that with 19 different pills in multiple bottles, and you can see how easy it would be to skip your daily supplements or forget to take a few of them. 4. Logistics of Ordering 

In addition to the number of bottles and pills needed for a DIY approach, there’s also the logistics of ordering — with some items needing to be ordered every 30 or 45 days, others every 60 or 90 days, and still others up to every 180 or 365 days. You might be thinking, “But Amazon offers ‘Subscribe and Save’ so I can just set up a subscription when I order the supplement for the first time.” Sure, you can sit down and do the math to see how often you would need to order each bottle of pills to match the dosage in NOVOS Core. But why would you, considering there is no cost benefit and you’re actually just taking more pills overall? Meanwhile, with NOVOS Core, you have one simple monthly subscription containing the exact anti-aging ingredients you need — no need to calculate subscription frequency, as everything is included in one sachet.

5. Lots of Shipping and Packaging Waste

All of those bottles add up to a lot of shipping and packaging waste, too — from the shipping box itself to the plastic bottles of supplements inside and even the giant, unnecessary cotton ball stuffed inside the jar. 6. Imprecise Dosages

As we explain in this FAQ, the scientists and doctors at NOVOS went to great lengths to get the dosage correct for NOVOS Core. They extrapolated the doses for NOVOS Core from animal studies, looked at doses used in human studies, looked at human pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics data, discussed with NOVOS’ Scientific Advisor Board, compared doses used in other supplements, and so on. This oftentimes led to us having to use much higher dosages than found in most other food supplements. That’s why we use sachets for a powdered drink mix — because pills would not suffice for the appropriate doses. 

With supplements purchased on Amazon, you often cannot find such attention to detail. In some cases, you might have trouble verifying whether the supplement contains the indicated dosage, and this can mean an imprecise dosage that doesn’t work as effectively as a NOVOS Core.

7. Quality Control Issues

In addition to carefully controlling the dosage, NOVOS ensures the safety and efficacy of our products by testing each individual ingredient for purity and contaminants, as well as the finished product.

Also, before we launched NOVOS Core, we tested it long-term in 25 participants for 6 to 12 months or longer. We found no side effects of any clinical relevance. In formulating our product, we specifically selected ingredients that are known to be very safe and to have a very low side-effect profile. Furthermore, we selected for the lowest doses possible, while still enabling beneficial effects in order to minimize potential side effects.

Can you say the same for your DIY Amazon supplement stack? In recent months, Amazon has begun cracking down on supplement sellers that were selling inferior-quality products, requiring them to submit documentation that reflects compliance with certain labeling, manufacturing, and other practices. However, it’s unclear how Amazon plans to enforce its policies, and it’s unlikely that you would find the same rigorous testing procedures as NOVOS carries out across the board.
